She's beautiful, sophisticated, buoyant, and fun-loving. He's dour and hates noise and crowds. In any case, the men have returned to the spot where they had been many times before, except that now they are ten years older.
This is an very good movie. The acting is well done, the plot makes sense, and the estuary truly is beautiful. It will work better on the large screen, because of the beautiful scenery of the estuary.
However, it will work well enough on a small screen as well. My compliments to the festival Programming Committee.

I can't say why exactly because it wasn't boring, per se, and I certainly didn't want the usual stereotypical conflicts that tend to crop up in these kinds of films.
In essence, the real development takes place when they're young and they pick up where they left off when they reunite as adults.
The scenery is lovely and the actors certainly have chemistry. Jero is especially captivating, both the younger and older actors are excellent.
Perhaps that's where the dissonance is for me as I didn't find adult Mati all that interesting.
Still, a decent enough film amidst the usual drivel. Definitely not a bad way to spend 90 minutes. What's interesting about Esteros is how little surprises there are.
The film plays out almost exactly as one would expect, its flashback structure isn't particularly innovative and the conflict isn't particularly tense either.
And yet, I am in love with this film. Esteros plays largely like a fan-fiction - and not in a bad way either. Childhood friends with an intimate friendship, grow apart with time only to reunite years later unexpectedly to rekindle their friendship and something more.
The film rests entirely on the intimate relationship between between Matias and Jero - and for good reason too. The chemistry between the two leads is palpable - there is a sense of age to their relationship dynamic, that when they interact for the first time in years it feels awkward and tepid, as if they were relearning how to be around each other.
It's those small details that lend an honesty and a truth to the relationship - so that when they kiss for the first time, the film has been building immensely towards it.
It is Esteros' devotion to the small emotional details that make it so emotionally satisfying. While not groundbreaking by any means, its gentleness and sweetness are infectious, and it's always nice to see a queer-themed film that wants its characters to get the happy ending they deserve.
Rainbowboys22 26 February I know I jump around in my reviews, but its the only way I can get this out, so please bear with me. I tend to love movies from outside the USA, this is why I requested the movie, and other than a few odd parts the movie was extremely better than expected.
This movie may be similar to a hallmark or lifetime TV movie, but it reminded me of my life, well up until the main characters met up as adults.
Watching the pain in both of their hearts was hard, but these amazing actors showed what the characters were feeling, which is rare in the GLBTQA movies, usually it is the fake generic feeling if any feelings are present to begin with.
This movie does do the annoying flashbacks, but it worked very well. Showing how their friendship turned to love which as love does turned bad for a bit, as we have all gone through As the kids were developing the attraction for each other, you can see they are not just scared at something new to them, as ALL kids do, gay or not, but the added fear of people finding out that you are into the same sex as you, the fear that if they find out, either they will disown you or at minimum keep you from each other as was my fear.
I am not sure if their parents knew about their feelings for each other or not, but at times, it seemed like it, especially one of the dads, as he watches the boys dancing, he didn't look to happy and ran for alcohol I wish the characters had been able to stay together as kids instead of being ripped apart It would have spared the girlfriends heart from the pain, but everything happens for a reason As for how she reacted to finding out her boyfriend was in love with someone else, and that it was another man, It didn't seem to real, but of course it could be the culture difference, as here in the USA, you would be seeing the lady flipping the hell out.
The only reason I gave it a 9, and this is probably childish or pervish but they shied away from real life in the romantic parts and the nudity, as usual they had no problem showing the female completely nude, but the men were covered unrealistically, I could understand if the actors themselves are modest but it seemed more like the typical USA phobia a hetero man wouldn't want to watch a movie with a naked guy in it, even if it wasn't up in your face, like they do with female nudity.
Overall the romantic feel of the movie makes it well worth watching it, just keep the tissues close you will need it at the end.
This is the story of Matias and Geronimo who were childhood friends and summered together at the farm of Jeronimo's down in the estuaries hence the title.
Then Matias's father takes a job in Brazil just as the two boys were beginning to understand their sexual desires and identities. Then the story moves up to the present day when after many years of separation they meet again but Matias now has a girlfriend and his life seems to have been mapped out for him.
The problem is that the feelings both have long held resurface once they are reunited and there will be ructions for all. Now this is not a ground breaking film both in terms of plot or presentation.
However, it does have a certain charm and the actors are all very good, the bedroom antics are tasteful too and it all hangs together well.
It is not great drama or aiming to advance the cause of gay lib but it is just a simple story about life, love and choices and as such I found it to be well worth a watch.
This movie would not win any awards in the originality department but it does the unoriginal bits pretty well.
I don't think I've seen this mentioned in any of the reviews I read. The song that plays both when the kids dance together the first time and then when they dance again as men is important because of the lyrics: "Love like ours should never die.
That haircut was awesome. This is more of a "coming to grips" movie than a "coming of age" film. Two young men whose extremely close relationship as children and young teens, eventually became physical.
Then one of them leaves for a decade, and on his return, discovers that what he felt was real. Showing on netflix.
This one MUST have been someone's actual life story. Two friends attracted to each other as kids meet up again as adults.
Except that now, one has a girlfriend. Some LONG drawn out scenes, and as others have said, the script moves pretty slowly.
But I like the simplicity of the story. Conflict, and we HOPE there will be resolution. They had both been in the industry about ten years.
Directed by Papu Curotto, who had also directed the short upon which this is filmed. Good stuff. Matias and Jeronimo are kids of farmers from a small town.

A new tale of events turn up and Mati ends up visiting Esteros archipelago. Mati instantly connects with his inner calling and gives into Jero.
Jero is composed, wants Matias as none other, has waited patiently for him for 10 yrs. Matias as usual goes overboard kisses Jero and they spend a night together but the moments they spent after a decade of tirade becomes meaningless when Matias has to get back to his job next day to Brazil.
A simple plot and subtle emotions of Jero and his devotional love, anger, decency will pull you towards him.
Movie lingers through the landscapes and timeline. Acting is very nice. Go ahead snuggle and watch with your loved one.

Matias's father indirectly broke up their relationship by accepting a job very far away. More than ten years later, Matias returns to his old town for carnival with his girlfriend and unexpectedly runs into Jeronimo.
Feelings will slowly reappear and will reach a climax, but at what price? Esteros is a coming-out-terms movie about a childhood friends who attracted to each other.
Matias and Jeronimo are kids who the parents friend with each other. They both are inseparable since then. Eventually they started attracted to each other as kids but unfortunately Matias's family must go to Brazil because of the job and leaving their hometown and Jeronimo.

From Mati who always tries to throw away and forget whatever he felt toward his friend and Jero tries to show a hint to his friend what he felt because he's been patiently waited over the decade.
I love and I think it's sweet how Jero still do and remembering what they always do together as kids. But get frustated when found out Mati always tries to forget and remove Jero whenever he tell his girlfriend about his childhood life.
But I know the reason why he doing that though. The estuaries is beautiful, quite and relaxing. A place like that is needed nowadays.
